14TH CORPORATE GOVERNANCE CONFERENCE @ EMPERORS PALACE CONVENTION CENTRE

The 14th Edition of the Corporate Governance Conference returns to its usual venue at Emperors Palace Convention Centre, from the 19th until the 22nd of November 2019; this time the focus will be on governance challenges in the fourth industrial revolution and the digital age. With the way in which disruptive technologies are affecting industrial production today, the current challenges for boards is to formulate strategies that put their organisations in good standing for the next wave of disruption. For instance, board members will have to wonder whether to adopt robotics and automation into their everyday operations, how this will affect board composition and employment going forward. The digital age had also meant that information moves faster now, and some channels of communication are not as rigid and formal as the post office or the e-mail. Social media information gets to people faster and reacting to such information in good time might mean boards adopting social media accounts as official channels of communication. Obviously, the official use of such accounts needs to be properly governed. Other challenges and opportunities presented by the technological revolution include:

  • Efficiency in public policies
  • Data-driven decision making
  • Ethical considerations with regards to data privacy and security
  • Automation and the future of work
  • Increased and improved feedback from shareholders and consumers

The conference will also tackle the latest developments in the usual talking points, including ethics, board diversity, financial reporting and remuneration, among other topics. The dynamics of industrial development, gender politics, information security and privacy are changing fast, and delegates will get deeper insights into how these trends affect the ways modern corporate boards conduct business. As usual, we have lined up top level speakers with international experience on board matters, who will help delegates chart the way for sound strategies that will shape the future of their corporate entities.
