13TH CORPORATE GOVERNANCE CONFERENCE @ Emperors Palace Convention Centre, Johannesburg

Following the recent poor board decisions that have led to huge corporate organisations collapsing or being forced to close operations, focus at the 2019 edition of the Corporate Governance Conference will be on how corporate boards should conduct themselves in this era of disruptive technologies that has also seen a rise in the activist shareholder.
Besides, with the numerous risks currently facing organisations in Africa, it is imperative that governing bodies and the various committees are adequately equipped to ensure that they are able to not only meet but exceed the deliverables that have been mandated to them.
The introduction of social and ethics committees through the new Companies Act and the introduction of the Integrity Management Framework in the public sector have increased demand for accountability of board members by shareholders and – in the case of public entities – members of the public in general. Both of these governance reforms have placed the strategic oversight of the ethics performance of organisations on the radar of governance bodies and executive management. It is simply not possible to exercise the governance duty of strategic oversight of ethics management without organisations conducting proper ethics risk assessments.
Set for forward thinking executives and boards, this year’s event aims to educate attendees about modern boards and how they can lead their organisations in the face of cyber threats, the industrial revolution and the age of Big Data. This year’s theme is Governance in times of turbulence, which attempts to address the latest upheavals in corporate governance; the conference offers participants unmatched expertise, superior networking connections, deep analysis and fresh perspectives on key trends and challenges in governance, compliance, risk and ethics.

Objectives
• To identify growth opportunities and challenges for boards brought by disruptive technologies
• To explore the various smart ways in which organisations can improve on accountability
• To discuss new and emerging expectations for corporate boards and company secretaries
• To learn on the governance and management of information in the age of cybercrime
